Learning how to talk to different audiences and social groups is often left by the wayside in university-based training for research careers. At the IGB, we are working to strengthen our researchers’ skills in communicating with policy makers, economic stakeholders, business and industry organizations, and the media. We want to better understand each of these groups and their specific goals and rationales. We have been working with Media Training for Researchers to develop customized workshops where our researchers learn how to present scientific findings concisely and effectively in interviews, lectures, and to the broader public.
